PDOL: ADVOCACY NARRATIVE REFLECTIVE

Personal Quote:
“As a school counselor, I will advocate for a brighter, more just future for the student body by helping shape their minds and spirits." —Valerie Armstrong

Artifact:
Use Of Time 5-Day Analysis, SCN-605-O501

My Reflection:
I reviewed the artifact entitled “Use of Time 5-Day Analysis” and its overview details the different roles and responsibilities related to indirect/direct services that I have performed during my Internship I coursework.

In retrospect, my experiences developing lesson plans and performing guidance lessons have improved my ability to deliver social and emotional support. I strive to achieve community involvement by continuously assisting teachers with strategies on how to better support the student body as a whole. As a servant leader, I also model strategies when I deliver classroom lessons. Feedback from the teachers is how I assess the benefits of those lessons. This feedback assists in what I need to improve upon.

A few areas that I have noted as areas for improvement are identifying barriers and promoting inclusivity/equity. I recognize that there are barriers that hinder student success, like socioeconomic challenges and mental health issues, but I do not always know how to respond. I sometimes second-guess what I should say and how I should respond ethically. I will continue to seek guidance from my peers/colleagues and inquire what has worked for them. Lastly, I will work to ensure that all students have access to the resources needed and promote inclusivity.
