PDOL: CURIOSITY NARRATIVE REFLECTIVE
As a School Counselor in Training, I promote and support the success of every student. I encourage curiosity that motivates learning. I encourage the exploration of different cultural beliefs through project-based activities. Discovering differences in each other is what I drive. Students are given opportunities or new or unusual encounters that stimulate pleasure and rewards. This motivates students to seek out more interesting experiences like new friendships.
As a School Counselor in Training, I seek to provide opportunities for the “curiosity loop”. I drive students to ask questions and seek out new experiences that challenge their growth.
Colors like blue, green, and yellow can help them tap into this desire.
Colors can powerfully impact emotions and behaviors.
The color BLUE means exploration, discovery, and curiosity.
GREEN means growth, harmony, and balance.
YELLOW means optimism, happiness, and curiosity.
James 1:5 – “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
Professional and Ethical Standards:
ASCA Standard: M5. Effective school counseling is a collaborative process involving school counselors, students, families, teachers, administrators, other school staff, and education stakeholders.
ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors: B.3. Responsibilities to self
CACREP Standard: G.3.6. Techniques of personal/social counseling in school settings
I have learned that building trusting relationships with students, families, teachers, and administrators involves communication skills, family engagement, data-driven decision-making, and cultural competence
I have also learned that my responsibility to myself is to prioritize my mental and physical health, grow professionally, and make ethical decisions. A work-like balance is crucial just as much as seeking professional support. Regularly reflecting on my counseling practices will help me better advocate for a positive environment.
By focusing on professional development, reflective practices, and collaboration, I can and will continue to enhance my skills and effectiveness in personal/social counseling.
